up today! Historic Camp Seeley in Crestline, California (a former
sawmill from the 1920's) will be the site for the latest chapter in a
Summer Camp program rich with history and tradition that dates back to
the 1930's. Any youth, from any county in California, between the ages
of 8 and 19 as of June 27, 2010 is eligible to attend 4-H Summer Camp.
If you are not currently enrolled in 4-H, you can do so today via your
local 4-H County Office. All the forms necessary to sign up for camp

At only $275 for the week, 4-H Summer Camp
offers a great Camp program that is well organized that includes room
and board for six nights and seven days. 4-H camp is a non-profit
program and is supported entirely by the staff, adult volunteers,
leaders, resource people and kitchen staff that are all 4-H members and
volunteers. The only exception is the Camp Nurse who is fully licensed,
experienced and on site full time.
| | 4-H Summer Camp is an Accredited Camp by the American Camping Association. There are only 51 4-H camps in the nation that have achieved ACA Accreditation and the LA County 4-H Summer Camp is the only accredited camp west of the Mississippi and has been ACA approved for over 20 years. The camp offers the following activities daily: nature, handicrafts, ping pong, basketball, soccer, swimming, hiking, fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, camp crafts, tie dye, knot tying and more. Each evening after flag lowering we light a fire in the fire circle, sing traditional camp songs and are entertained by a different event each night. Past evening programs have included, Team Games, Carnival Night, Talent Show, Movie Night, Graduation Ceremony and much more.
The meals are healthy, well-balanced and prepared by a kitchen staff anchored by Head Chef, Mary Lash. Mary has over 58 years of experience teaching food preparation in the public schools and has been attending 4-H camp for over 60 years. Mary will not be at camp this year, so her chief assistant, David Lewis (with over 35 years of 4-H camp experience), will take the helm again this year and the meals are a highlight among the camp participants.
With so many activities and a full schedule the week at 4-H Camp goes by quickly. There are already over 200 people confirmed to attend the 2010 Camp and you can reserve your spot today with a non-refundable $50 deposit. There are full and partial camperships available via the LA Times Campership Fund and the R.P. Amman Memorial Campership Fund for those who need financial assistance to attend camp. Applications are also available online. There is no charge to parents who volunteer to serve as chaperones and resource leaders.
Camp Seeley is located in the San Bernardino Mountains, above the town of San Bernardino and is nestled in a forest of tall pines at an elevation of 4,200 feet. Close to Lake Gregory and the Village of Crestline, it is located on Highway 138, four miles from Lake Silverwood. Camp Seeley is owned and operated by the Los Angeles Dept. of Recreation and Parks, under permit from the National Forest Service. The facility includes 60 cabins (each sleeps 4-5 people), a large kitchen, dining hall, rustic lodge, modern restroom/shower facilities, playing field, game room and children's play area. Camp Seeley was the location for filming of Disney's "Parent Trap 2" and many of the camp features are prominent in the movie.
