| Hi, my name is Hannah and I am a Queen at 4-H Summer Camp 2009. This is my second year on staff, and seventh here at camp, and I couldn’t be happier. I think it is so cool how we have so many kids from Operation: Military Kids, and it makes me really proud to be a part of it. This is a great program, and all the kids in it are incredible. Though on the outside they may seem like every other kid here, they have so much more to them than we can see. Still, they really are just like all the other kids, and it’s great that they can be a part of camp with everyone else. Most of them I don’t even realize are from the program. One of the most surprising things about this group is how diverse they all are. No two are alike, and each one has a story to how their lives have been changed. I truly wish that I could get to talk to each one, just for five minutes, and get to know them. Although I’m the leader for them, they are the ones inspiring me. It has opened my eyes to how beautiful the people of this world are, especially the children. They have so much hope and brave endurance to be going through what they are at such a young age. Before this program was introduced to me, I didn’t give a second thought to those in the military. I thought it was very noble of them to do so much for our country, but that was where the thought stopped. It has become so much more real to me by seeing their children, the ones who are so deeply affected. I want to thank them for coming, and being a part of summer camp. Summer camp is one of my favorite things all year, and to be able to share it with all of them is absolutely heartwarming. This is why I’m on staff: to make this week one of the best in these kids lives. I hope that I’ve done this, and given them a chance to be the independent, crazy cool kids they all are.

| | My name is Ashlyn. I am 9
years old and I have been a 4-Her for 3 years. This last June was my
second time that I attended 4-H Summer Camp. At camp, my friends and
I had lots of fun. We went swimming every day. We did lots of crafts
like tie dying shirts, made bird houses, friendship bracelets, lanyards
or key chains, and lots of other great things. We would have camp
fires and sing camp songs. But most of all, the food was really
delicious. My Dad told me to say that because he works in the kitchen.
All the adults that come to camp, like the chaperones, the adult staff,
and kitchen staff are all volunteers. They’re all great. They help
organize team games and other stuff we do. I love 4-H Summer Camp and I
can’t wait until next year!
